Maserati’s 100th Anniversary commissioned; ‘Neptune in the Wind’ sculpture at "TWINS" Art Exhibition by Oliviero Rainaldi

19 August 2015, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Twins, Galeri PETRONAS - The "Twins" exhibit by Oliviero Rainaldi features over 40 astonishing artworks comprising of sculptures, sketches and oil paintings.  The highlight of the exhibition will be the extraordinary Maserati’s 100th Anniversary commissioned; ‘Neptune in the Wind’ sculpture. The exhibition will take place at Galeri PETRONAS from 18 August until 4 October, 2015

Oliviero Rainaldi was assigned on behalf of Maserati to create a sculpture in honour of its tradition. As a result, the “Neptune in the Wind” sculpture was born.

This fine work celebrating the company's now 101 years is in bas-relief on a slab of Crystal white marble. Measuring 260 cm high by 190 cm wide and weighing 600 kg, in stone specially delivered from Vietnam due to its non-standard measurements, the sculpture is a marvellous sight. The type of marble used has the distinctive characteristic of being perfectly white both on the surface and in transparency, a feature exploited to the full in this particular work, completed by LED backlighting for an even more stunning effect.

The entire work is framed by a 5 mm steel band, shaped on the back and supported by a special slightly inclined easel-shaped structure. The use of this technique is innovative, both because this frame has functions beyond its traditional decorative purpose and due to the work’s considerable size. The final result allows the sculpture to be viewed in two ways, with natural lighting as well as with the integral lighting system, generating an additional and completely different effect.

What’s more, the sculpture sets outs to express some of the specific connotations of the Maserati brand: power, dynamism, speed and elegance, symbolised by the mythical figure of Neptune with his Trident. The artist has also created 20 numbered exquisite tiles (1-20) in backlit white marble, measuring 25x30 cm and reproducing the full-size sculpture, again in backlit white marble.

Maserati was founded in 1914 in Bologna, where the Maserati brothers adopted the symbol of the Trident, created by the artist of the family Mario Maserati and inspired by the famous statue of Neptune in Bologna, and made it the logo to encapsulate the new company’s identity in a single image. After more than 100 years, Maserati’s history is still continuing and evolving, constantly expressing the artistic mix at the core of its vision.

The amazing Maserati cars such as The Quattroporte Flagship, The Ghibli 4 Door Sports Sedan and The timeless GranTurismo and GranCabrio Sport Coupe and Convertible will be at the exhibition grand opening event and are available for test drive enjoyment of guests.

Oliviero Rainaldi’s works feature a simple style, flowing lines, classical beauty, refined composition and a condensed yet dynamic form.  The works on exhibit in the Twins collection possess their own specifcity, yet in close relation, metaphors each other, and their equivalency is based on their opposition, as twins, similar but not identical: the horizontal and the vertical, the plenty and the void, immersing and emerging, presence and absence, intimacy and manifestation, taking the returning, that which is hidden and that which is unveiled, the sea and the mountain. The concepts of wind and suspension, which united in a particular way to the concept of dynamism play a fundamental role and are expressed in the large backlit bas relief “Neptune in the Wind”.

Thai Automotive Exports Down In June

Thailand's car and truck exports in June decreased by 26.14 per cent year-on-year to 76,774 units. Im terms of value, the exports contracted 29.21 per cent to 35.15 billion baht.

The total export value of the automotive sector including engines, parts and spare parts dropped 20.97 per cent to 56.872 billion baht, said Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries' (FTI) Automotive Industry Club at a press conference today.

For the January-June period, exports increased 2.86 per cent to 576,073 units and in value terms perked 0.03 per cent to 264.686 billion baht compared with the same period last year, he said.

Including engines, parts and spare parts, the exports contracted 1.39 per cent to 387.383 billion baht, he added.

The domestic sales continued to be weak, shrinking 18.4 per cent to 60,217 units in June compared with the same period last year.

However, it was still 5.75 per cent better than in May.

Domestic sales for the January-June period stood at 369.004 billion baht, down 16.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The contributing factors to the weak domestic sales included slowdown in private investment, weak prices of agricultural products as well as stringent loan requirements by financial institutions facing high household debt and lower budget disbursement by the government which in turn affected purchasing power, Surapong said.

He said cars and trucks production in June totalled 151,698 units.

The production for the domestic market rose 17.09 per cent to 64,725 units, but production for exports dropped 16.85 per cent to 86,973 units, he added.

Ducati Malaysia rolls out the highly anticipated Scrambler Ducati family

Next Bike Sdn Bhd (Ducati Malaysia) has motorcycle aficionados ready to make a beeline for the Ducati showroom following the official introduction of the much awaited complete range of Scrambler Ducati today. The introduction took place at the Ducati Sungai Buloh, in-conjunction with the kick off of a nationwide Scrambler Ducati tour.

“Following the Scrambler’s exclusive preview last October, where it was very warmly received by the media, Ducati partners and Ducati Club members, we knew this model was going to be a hit with motorcycle lovers all over Malaysia. So it is with great excitement that we now have the entire Scrambler range available to the local market,” Datuk Wira Hj. SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, Group Executive Chairman & Group CEO, NAZA World Group of Companies.

“A contemporary take on a sport bike with retro-flair, the Scrambler Ducati certainly lives up to the hype. Designed to traverse the urban jungle with ease, this is a bike that appeals to both highly experienced riders and keen amateur riders who are looking for functional simplicity and admire vintage designs that are easily customizable," added Datuk Wira HJ SM Faisal.

For months, Ducati kept the new Scrambler guarded within a (now famous) large yellow container, sharing only snippets of information on the bike’s look and features in a 3-episode web series released on the Internet. Ending the agonizing wait, on 18 July, the Scrambler was previewed in spectacular fashion at the World Ducati Week 2014. The Scrambler then went on to tour the globe, making special appearances in numerous countries before passionate Ducatisti who have long awaited its introduction. Last October, Next Bike Sdn Bhd delighted members of the local press and Ducati Club Malaysia with an exclusive preview of this renewed classic just ahead of the launch of Asia Ducati Week 2014.

A contemporary interpretation of the original 1970’s icon, the Scrambler Ducati 2015 is an easy-to-handle sport bike that is comfortable, accessible and every bit as fashionable as its predecessor. Whilst it certainly exhibits a retro flair, the Scrambler was not designed to indulge in the nostalgic but rather was ‘intended to be just how the legendary Bologna-built motorcycle would be today if Ducati had never stopped building it’.

The Scrambler’s ‘post-heritage’ design has taken the best of the past and transformed it into something unique and current whilst simultaneously retaining the original’s charm and honoring its history. A balance of tradition and modernity, this model marks the return to the pure essence of motorcycling: two wheels, a wide handlebar, a simple engine and a huge amount of fun.

With the aim of reviving a legend and enhancing it with the technical specifications of a present day bike, Ducati’s designers incorporated several defining characteristics such as the fuel tank; shaped in a way that remains true to the original teardrop design of the 1970’s model, an inscription on the filler cap that says ‘born in 1962’ and the distinctive round head lamp.

Back in the day, the Scrambler was a 250cc single-cylinder bike and now it runs on a fuel-injected oil and air cooled 800cc L-Twin engine that produces up to 75 horsepower. The Scrambler includes various modern features and fittings such as the two-channel ABS braking, LED powered headlights, and a USB charging port under the seat.
The highly customizable new Scrambler comes in four versions: the red or yellow Icon, the black-framed Classic, the wild green Urban Enduro and the black Full Throttle racer with yellow accents. Each version offers its own style and performance-related interpretation of the Scrambler spirit.

The Icon, characterized by its comfortable riding position and steel teardrop tank with interchangeable aluminum side panels, is the starting point from which to express yourself. The 790mm seat height ensures comfort for both the rider and passenger. Stand-out features include the wide handlebar, the headlight with glass lens and LED guide-light, and the Dual Sport wheels. An aluminum finish for the belt covers; the heat guard and the interchangeable surround of the characteristic LCD instrument panel all enrich the style of the bike. Available in two colours: ’62 Yellow and Ducati Red.

The Urban Enduro version (in Wild Green) is the ideal companion with which to get around urban obstacles with agility, but also to reach new places, riding on the less travelled roads. The brown seat with a ribbed design, lined with technical fabrics, offers first-class ergonomic comfort. The fork protectors, engine sump guard and the headlight grille protect the key parts of the bike on off-road sections, while the cross bar stiffens the wide handlebar. Additional references to the off-road world include the high mudguard in plastic fiber and the spoke wheels.

The Full Throttle version (in Deep Black) is inspired by the flat track world and makes clear references to the bikes that race around dirt ovals. It is equipped with a Termignoni racing exhaust homologated for road use, a seat designed for racing and black side panels with dedicated graphics. The low tapered handlebar and the short front mudguard add to the distinctive features of the Scrambler Full Throttle, destined for those who want a bike perfect for every-day use but without compromising on racing style.

The Classic version (in Orange Sunshine) is aimed at those who appreciate attention to detail and 1970s style, but who don’t want to compromise on riding pleasure and the functionality of a modern bike. It is characterised by unique, refined details, such as the aluminium front and rear mudguards, the spoke wheels and the brown seat with diamond-shaped inserts.

All four variants of the Ducati Scrambler are available to the Malaysian market. Introductory net selling prices (inclusive of GST) are as follows:

Scrambler Icon – RM57,333
Scrambler Urban Enduro – RM64,888
Scrambler Full Throttle - RM64,888
Scrambler Classic - RM64,888
